Operational Requirements
In general, think of this Hemp crop as either Hay(Fiber) or Wheat(Grain)
This crop is planted like a warm season crop with a drill, but can be broadcast and incorporated
This crop should be shallow planted between ¼” and ¾” It is important not to over work ground as the seed tend to migrate deeper in loose soils
No-Till planting is a viable option after an applied burndown program or behind a short cover crop
Population: 800,000 – 1,000,000 seed per acre or more (20-60 pounds of seed)
1- 3 cuttings per season with a maturity of between 70-130 days
Best cut with sickle bar mowers, and let dry for a few days before baling
Store long term under cover until processing in a decorticating machine
Hemp decortication simply means the bast fibers and hurd fibers are separated using a decortication machine that mechanically separates the fibers of the hemp plant.
